a delicious week, 10.15.07

Joel

Last week:

  • Reuters covered online advertising dollars, stating “…some media veterans worry that expectations for online advertising may be getting out-sized. Increasingly, they say, too much media depends on advertising as the only source of revenue.” Other folks reportedly think there will be more than enough dollars to go around. Either way and in general, Undies would do well to diversify their revenue streams, especially if they depend heavily on advertising.
  • I first saw this Reuters info in Steve Rubel’s post “Web 2.0 Economics 101,” which closed with, “If you’re a start up or an advertiser, pay attention to these two trends. They will have a big impact. It’s going to get very hard for advertiser-supported startups to get any scale when it comes to revenue.” Again, if you rely heavily on advertising, look to your online store, conventions, sponsorships, donations, and other sources. Your fans dig you and are eager to help.

  • NewTeeVee Live updated their event schedule. Check the end of the announcement for info about special pricing for Undies who would like to attend. I hope to see you there.
  • TechCrunch compared the leading video services in a nice overview.
  • Forbes analyzed the Madonna / Live Nation news and provided helpful context.

These and other stories appeared in the undependent Del.icio.us feed over the last week. If you aren’t yet familiar with Del.icio.us, I highly recommend it. For starters, you might read this excellent post about it from the good folks at DIYPlanner.com, a community site focusing on paper-based productivity, planning, journalling and creative techniques.:

We would like to start using Del.icio.us to pool everyone’s links regarding productivity, journal writing, creativity, time management, etc. There is so much out there and we feel it is important that the WHOLE community get involved. Therefore, we ask that if you want to share your links with us, for possible posting in our Links area, you create your own Del.icio.us account. Then simply start tagging the appropriate links…

In the same fashion, we would love to involve the whole undependent community in this effort. We will pool links regarding undies, undependence, entertainment media, ecommerce and the web, best practices, etc. If you see stories that you think we should know about and that you would like to discuss here, please share them with us by tagging them in Del.icio.us with “for:undependent”.
Thanks a ton.
