Undependent

Jef

As has been said elsewhere, nowadays the word INDEPENDENT carries all the weight of a balsa ice-cream tasting spoon. It’s spent, done, neutered and neutralized. But despite this, the Internet’s coupling of audiences and creators has enabled folks to be self-sustaining content creators. No gatekeepers required. Even this is old news. But something ELSE is up.

Most think monetizing eyeballs is the show. The dominant formula goes like this:

  • Grow audience.
  • Sell audience to Advertisers.

It works and obviously many dominant Internet plays use this formula. But what of those who’ve amassed sizeable audiences who DON’T want to sell them to anyone? How do they become self-sustaining?
How about instead of selling your audience to product/service providers, you sell your own products to your own audience? We’re not talking about Cafe Press. We’re talking about YOUR store. YOUR own merchandise. YOUR message.

That’s what we’re about.
